ON THE HOMEGROUND
17 of 23 crews,
which drive in YugoCup in 2003 season came from teams, where this year rally
Saturnus will take place, from Idrija and from Cerkno. MPI racing Idrija team,
who is also organizing rally Saturnus, have 14 drivers, and the other 3 are
coming from Cerkno racing, which was established at the beginning of this year.
There is a question if they will take the advantage of knowing home roads to
take win in YugoCup, where after three rallies, 5 counts for the cup, Tomi Kos
(see picture with white yugo) from Koper is leading only 3 points before Marko
Jeram (see picture with blue yugo) from Idrija. And it could happen, that Jeram, who tested skoda Felicia kit cat
few weeks ago, will be on the top of overall standing after rally Saturnus. But
there are other drivers too. Especially Darko Lampe and Mitja Prezelj, both are
from Idrija, who already won one event this year, but both also retired twice
because of technical problems.
So we can again
expect good fight for first place in YugoCup and the difference might be again
only one second as in rally Velenje. And also 'foreign' drivers, who are not
from Idrija, can achieve good results. There is Borut Bratina is fast in last
races. Bratina is leading in hill climb and circuit YugoCup and on the same
date as Saturnus is organized there is also next circuit taking place and
question is, which of those two races Bratina will participate. Theoretically
he an do both. And Tomi Kos and Jovica Petkovic also have good chances to be at
the top in YC at the finish of the rally Saturnus. Rally Saturnus will be home
ground event also for Sandi Sedej; especially new special stage in Cerkno could
be his advantage. Unfortunately attractive David Komar will miss the race,
because he goes to Thailand for several months and because of problems with
engine participation of Matjaz Gerbec is under question.
