SLOVENIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Rally Saturnus is penultimate rally of Slovenian championship. At the
moment Mitja Klemenčič and Jernej Korpar (mitsubishi lancer) are leader, 20
points ahead of Milan Bubnič and Jure Krizmanič (lancia delta). Tomaž Kaučič
(renault clio S1600) retired at the lat rally in Velenje and it is
now on third
place. And those three crews will probably have fight for win Slovenian
championship also in Saturnus. Slovenian championship is open, but national ASN
AŠ 2005 decided, that each foreign crew, which want to participate Slovenian
championship, must participate at least two events, so all foreign crews must
decide before Saturnus if they will come to last rally in Maribor. In that
case, they will score points for Slovenian championship. But it is already known
that Andrej Jereb (seat Ibiza kit car) won't drive for Slovenian points. Also there
will be some great fights in other classes. In the lowest Division I (N1 + A5)
Alex Humar (vw polo, A5) will probably be the fastest but we don't believe,
that he will be again in first 3 in some special stages like last year in
Idrija rally (same stages). His biggest rival will be Darko Lampe (zastava yugo
A5) and for other places Rok Turk (vw polo, N1), Marko Jager (škoda fabia, A5)
and Marko Jeram (zastava yugo A5) are candidates,
but there are also
some other good drivers which can surprise us. Especially those from Idrija,
they know roads very well. In Division III (A-2000) we'll have a chance for the
first time this year in Slovenian rallies to see last year champion Zoran Bajc
(opel astra), and his best rival could be Tomaž Gorenc (Renault clio). Tomaž
hopes that there won't be any rain, but weather forecast is not good at the
moment. Of course there is also Aleš Grižon (Renault clio), and current leader
Grega Podpečan (lada samara). Jurij Eržen (Peugeot 306) will miss, because they
had an accident before the event. In Division II (N-2000) spectators are
already waiting to see Boštjan Logar (citroen xsara) who is expected to have
big fight with Borut Smrdelj (Renault clio). Boštjan drive very attractively
and Borut very 'nice', not as attractive as Boštjan, but very fast. There are
also current leader Danijel Boštjančič (Renault clio) and Boris Bržan (fiat
punto). Division IV (N+2000). Mitja Klemenčič is the biggest candidate to win,
but Tomi Cilenšek already shows, that he quick get to drive his Subaru impreza.
The last is Division V (H). There are only 2 drivers, Uroš Papež (peugeot 309)
and Robert Valič (opel kadett).
We expect good
race and fights for victories. It's hardly to expect that differences will be
so small as in the past rally Velenje, where difference between first two in
general classification was only 1.1s. A lot depends on weather and at the
moment forecast is not good (rain expected). And the last information shows
that Klemencic prepared his mitsubishi better, they are still working on the
car and the other are not sleeping too. Everything will be clear in Sunday
around 16:00.
