MOTOR SLED COMPETITION
Organisers of this years winter auto show are also preparing interesting competition with motor sleds, which will be first official motor sled race in Slovenia. This kind of sport is very developed in foreign countries. Of course we are not talking about normal sleds, but about race motor sleds. Especially in USA and Canada those races are very popular and in Europe this country is Finland, of course this depends mostly on weather conditions. In Finland sleds are the easiest way of transportation. On the races, competitors are part in two groups, depending on capacity of motor. First class is up to 500 ccm and second up to 800 ccm. Race motor sled don't have a lot of common with normal sled for cruising through the snow land. Around 190 HP take us to the speed of 100km/h in only 3 seconds, and the maximum speed is around 130 km/h. Races are similar to those of motocross. Width of the track is 5-6 m and up to 20 competitors starts at the same time. One race is 20 minutes long, plus 2 laps. Sled racing is becoming more popular also in Slovenia. Gasper Podbregar, co-driver of Tomi Cilensek (Subaru impreza) from Prebold, will this year compete in Austrian open motor sled championship. "First of al I'd like to get more experiences. I know I'll have to train a lot, because this is very hard sport. Other competitor came from Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland and I'll be the only Slovenian" says Podbregar, who also wants to prepare race track near by Celje. And during winter show we'll be able to watch interesting competition on Rogla. The only difference will be single competitor on the track. More information will be available next week, when regulations will be published. |
